Historically, women have been the anonymous subjects of paintings rather than the renowned masters of them. Pretty becomes a consolation prize in this sense, ignoring hopes, dreams, flaws, sharp edges, victories, and journeys of very real people.
Women inspire me. But I do not paint them for their loveliness as much as for their stories. Women cannot be restricted to the role of muse when we have so much more to offer than sitting prettily in a gilded cage.
If you find yourself in a place where you are not fully accepted for all of you, I encourage you to bravely step out of your cage.
