About this piece:
The colorful American release.
“It was just a thing— a thing that I had made and loved, and then changed, and then remade, and still loved, and then published, and then put aside so I could go on to make other things.” -Elizabeth Gilbert
The Strokes have my favorite reaction to the phenomenon of having to edit creativity. Their international album cover was inspired by the idea that “sex sells”, which met with resistance in the American market, and couldn’t release the album unless they changed the cover. The end result? A second album cover: a scientific image of the Big Bang. Cheeky.
There is only so far dignity takes us before it becomes stubbornness. Where do you need to reroute and let go?
